Brighton based Will Knighton is regarded as one of the most hotly tipped young producers and DJʼs to emerge from the UK Bass scene. Blurring the lines between house, dubstep and Dutch techno, Dismantle was catapulted into the limelight after his massive ʻComputationʼ track, getting hammered by the likes of Annie Mac, Diplo, Skream, Zane Lowe, Mista Jam, Toddla T and all the key tastes makers. Since then he continues to run his own label ʻGangoon Dubzʼ and has released on Gold Rush, Wheel N Deal and Caspaʼs Dub Police imprint.

2012 saw Dismantle sign to Shy FXʼs Digital Soundboy label and release his critically acclaimed ʻWarp EPʼ in July. Will also turned out massive remixes for Toddla T on Ninja Tune and more recently his brilliant re-work of A-Trak & Zincʼs ʻLike The Dancefloorʼ on Fools Gold/Rinse, not to mention cementing himself as a firm festival favorite with killer performances at Ibiza Rocks, Outlook, Lovebox, Glastonbury, Bestival, ADE & Global Gathering to name a few.
Oct 2012 saw Will host a 4 week residency on BBC 1Xtra as part of the BBCʼs Xtra Talent program and he also guested on Radio 1ʼs Diplo & Friends show.

Already a firm favourite with the likes of Diplo, Annie Mac, Skrillex, Mista Jam and Skream, 2013 has seen Will already remix the likes of Sub Focus and a collaboration with Major Lazer and No Doubt, not to mention cementing his new residency on Rinse FM. Heʼs is now busy working on his next EP and his debut album for Digital Soundboy.

Ex-Northbrook Students Monkey Wrench Playing at Fabric

Liam O’Neill, an ex Music Production student at Northbrook, has a set at Fabric London in May.

Monkey Wrench, based in Bristol, are Liam O’Neill and Declan Moorcroft. They have been making waves on the electronic scene since 2012 and have had numerous plays on Radio 1Xtra. Living in Bristol together they take as much influence from their surroundings as they do from Hip-Hop, House and other genres of music. Their sound is a blend of beats, bass, vocal cuts and melodic elements.

Along with being named as one of B.Traits artists to watch for 2013, they have already been spotted by the likes of Dismantle (also Ex-Northbrook), My Nu Leng and Klose One to name a few.

February 2013 saw the boys debut release, Fatal Attraction EP. Featuring big remixes from Pasteman and fellow Bristol resident Hugo, this is one not to be overlooked.

This year and the years to come are looking bright for Monkey Wrench. With more releases, collaborations, mixes & live shows in the pipeline make sure you keep an eye on these lads in future.

Gamelan Visits Northbrook

Northbrook hosted West Sussex Music’s Javanese Gamelan at the Broadwater campus for 6 weeks. During this time students were able to learn traditional Javanese music and perform them on the large orchestra of gongs, chimes, drums and metallophones.

The music tech students spent a day recording the Gamelan which they then created multi-sampled instruments in Native Instruments Kontakt.

New Focusrite Rednet System

We have just installed a brand new set of audio interfaces; Focusrite’s RedNet system. It is an upgrade from our old ProTools HD 192 intefaces and brings network audio to Northbrook for the first time. The system allows any control room to connect to any live room via ethernet in a simple control panel app. We will soon be able to have one band playing in a live room and have students in multiple control rooms recording them.

The system features extremely low latency and extremely high track counts, and puts students in control of state-of-the-art recording facilities.
